Keyport police seek clues in recent burglaries
The first burglary happened between 5 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Aug. 9. A resident called to report items stolen, according to Hyman. The resident told police someone entered through a garage and took a large amount of jewelry.On Aug. 26, another resident reported that she returned home from vacation to find that her house had been burglarized, police said. The resident said her bedroom was ransacked, and jewelry and a large amount of special coins had been taken, police said. It was not known how that home had been entered, police said.
Between 10:15 a.m. and 6 p.m. on Sept. 6, another resident told police, someone had forced their way through a first-floor window and ransacked the home, taking a large amount of jewelry.Another man reported that property was taken from inside his vehicle at approximately 1 p.m. Saturday while he was visiting a friend. The victim reported that he had just finished shopping and parked his vehicle outside a residence on Chingarora Avenue and went inside for approximately 30 minutes. When he returned to his vehicle, the tailgate to his truck was down and items had been stolen from the bed of the vehicle. Police said a microwave oven, a dish set and flatware were taken from the truck.
The Gem, Mineral and Jewelry Show, which has been held in Ocean City for more than 20 years, will again come to the Ocean City Convention Center Sept. 16-18. The show, which usually attracts a crowd of more than 1,000 people, will feature fine jewelry, crystals, minerals, beads and fossils from an array of vendors.Florida Quartz dealer Rita Albrecht will have several tables making up what she calls an “eclectic booth” at the event. She and her husband have been traveling up the coast via motor home for more than a dozen years to attend the Ocean City gem show.
