Boulder Ski Deals to expand in Village Shopping Center

Boulder Ski Deals is slated to undergo an expansion and remodel that, officials say, will modernize the store and result in the addition of hiking, trekking and traveling products.The city of Boulder last week approved a building permit for Boulder Ski Deals’ expansion into the vacant space west of the retailer’s 16,950-square-foot store in the Village Shopping Center, 2525 Arapahoe Ave. The permit also covered an interior remodel of the store that will include new carpet,prom dresses, lighting and fixtures.

The permit was valued at $175,000, according to city documents.”We’re going to spiff it up a little bit,” said Randy Bush, regional manager for Boulder Ski Deals and Colorado Ski & Golf, “but do it in a way that’s going to keep our culture intact and keep the specialty feel intact.”In past years, Boulder Ski Deals has utilized the neighboring space for its annual Spyder Sale. Space, however, also has become more coveted in recent years because of increasing foot-traffic and a growing interest in a wider selection of products — including casual hiking gear and apparel, he said.

By knocking down the wall, Boulder Ski Deals will bring on an additional 2,500 square feet. The larger space combined with a three-phase remodel is expected to allow for the expansion of categories such as footwear, lifestyle apparel and technical apparel; an improvement to the customer traffic flow between the aisles; and the addition of new products.Work is slated to begin late next week and is expected to conclude in six to seven weeks, Bush said.
